跟我一樣只接觸流行樂的朋友大概都是從 smooth 這首排行榜上的怪獸開始認識 Santana 這號人物
先來談談 smooth 這首歌  為什麼說它是排行榜上的怪獸?
因為它總共拿了12週#1  Billboard Hot 100 五十年歷史以來  能拿下10週以上冠軍的歌曲只不過23首  一張 Supernatural 專輯便包辦了2 首 (另一首是 Maria Maria)
這也是目前絕無僅有的記錄: 一張專輯裡有2首10週以上冠軍單曲
雖然 smooth 因為跨年的關係  沒能摘下年終榜冠軍
但在 Billboard 近期發表的一些50週年特別榜單裡  終究還是確認了這首歌的歷史地位: The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs #2

從此  Carlos Santana 和他所領軍的 Santana 團樂一腳跨進主流市場  合作的人物都是一時之選
2002年再出擊  帶著 Michelle Branch 唱著 the game of love  佔據成人抒情榜少說有一年  Michelle Branch 的人氣也扶搖直上
同張專輯和知名歌手如 Dido, Chad Kroeger, Seal 合作的歌曲也都是膾炙人口的作品
雖然2005年 I'm feeling you 再度找來 Michelle Branch 如法炮製並未再掀熱潮  但 Santana 早已成功地打下拉丁以外的另一塊市場
